Having news articles on your website that are current and properly optimised for search engines can do much to boost can increase the reach of your website.
Recently search editor for the Times Online Drew Broomhall whilst speaking to the Association of Online Publishers explained that a good search engine optimisation (SEO) strategy when applied to online news helps to increase the exposure of that website’s brand to new audiences.
He also indicated that a sound SEO strategy will highlight the usefulness of the website to consumers, going on to advise those publishing news feeds online to consider how people search for their content and which keywords to use, and to look at what their competitors are doing to attract traffic.
“All of these can inform your editorial and content strategy and make your content more useful to more people,” Mr Broomhall stated.
“This creates a solid base of regular, reliable traffic that makes you less reliant on chasing trends.”
Times Online editor-in-chief Anne Spackman also told an AOP digital seminar at the PPA Conference last year that the newspaper had started to offer SEO training to its journalists.
