St Joseph’s is one of the leading hospices in Europe, providing palliative – end of life – care for patients, relatives and carers and expert palliative care training for health care professionals. Our objective has been to raise St Joseph’s profile across all stakeholder groups, increase understanding of its role within diverse local communities and generate donation income from fundraising activity.

One of the solutions
The Great East End Walk was created as an annual event (now in its 2nd year) designed to bring together widely disparate groups who live or work in the East End and City of London. The aim was to build multiple associations between these community/donor groups and St Joseph’s, build recognition and understanding of St Joseph’s work and raise funds via corporate sponsorship, legacy donations and individual giving. The event was supported by an off line awareness campaign in press, poster sites and literature and a targeted email campaign and micro website.

Results
Over the 2 years 750 walkers took part and over £43k was raised as a direct result, yielding a 300% return against total cost. Final 09 income is still being evaluated. Indirect value via awareness raising and associated donations are also still being measured.
